Despite Early Reports, ?UFC Japan Series? Deal not Finalized

MMAFrenzy.com ? Despite Early Reports, ?UFC Japan Series? Deal not Finalized

Early reports by a Japanese sports website on a finalized deal for smaller series of UFC fights in the country are not completely accurate at this time. While a deal is in the works, the UFC?s executive vice president and managing director of UFC Asia Mark Fisher has revealed to MMAFighting that nothing has been finalized at this time.

Fisher stated via email:

?I think some items they printed were exaggerated or taken out of context, i.e., as if they are happening rather than simply just things we are just looking at.?All really just pure speculation at this point.?

The promotion has shown signs of wanting to expand more into the Asian market ? i.e. UFC on FUEL TV 6 taking place in Macau, China ? and the VP did affirm the promotion?s intent to expand their footprint in Asia.

The original article sited a series of shows in Japan at smaller venues (around 5,000-seat venues) throughout the country. Fisher did confirm comments made about rebuilding Japanese MMA, stating:

??I want to foster Japanese world-class fighters,? he said. ?In Japan, which can be called the birthplace of mixed martial arts, I want to do an event on a regular basis?
